Does this need a spring box?

I was blown away by the wave of great suggestions for the entry way to the farm I posted about a few days ago, thanks again for the help! Here is something else I am looking for sage advice on if y'all don't mind!

This is a spring on the farm. It comes out of the rock face, runs across the property and dumps into a shallow river. The current home on the property was getting their water from this source via the pipe you see in picture #2 and using a pump/bladder in the pump house.

You can see remnants of the foundation to an old spring house (I believe anyway). If I wanted to use this as my water source as well, would you suggest building a spring box at the entrance to the rock opening? Are there any better alternatives? I would also probably add in some screen and UV filtration system if I decided this was going to be the water source for my family.
