Was traveling in Peru, walking through part of the Sacred Valley and these were off the side of the trail just hanging down. I should’ve included something for size reference but I would say they were about the size of a kiwi. I recall them being smooth and not prickly like a cucumber, slight squish to them. Are they a cucumber, a melon, something else? Having trouble Id’ing myself. Thanks!

There are SO many varieties of passion fruit (passiflora) that grow in this part of the world so that would be my first guess. Some are more palatable than others.
Mouse melons
Another vote for watermelon cucumber.
Definitely a cucamelon. I have no doubt about that.
Creeping Cucumber.
It’s a cucumber.
But pocket melons do exist
I mean, cut one open, and we could tell you easily.
Oh yeah, thats them melons on them vines.
These are too big for a cucamelon, idk why everyone is suggesting it. First though was slightly overripe cucumbers, but since it is Peru it could be some lesser known melon.
Definitely not a cucamelon/mouse melon ( Melothria scabra) Although the color does bare resemblance, you mention they are the size of kiwis. This is way too large for Melothria scabra which typically have fruits the size of a thumb.
Sour gerkin.
Could be a hardy kiwi. They are smaller than the fuzzy type.
We call it chibbar in Punjab, India.
