Does anyone know what this is?

I went for a walk in Milford Connecticut and was stepping all over these by mistake but I have no idea what they are.

They’re yellow on the inside, I took these photos in Summer (September) and I think that’s all the information I have.

Looks like a kousa (Cornus kousa) fruit. It’s a species of dogwood. The fruit is edible. I’ve been told it’s like eating a sandy peach.

Lois’s dogwood fruit. They’re used in jams, sauces and some beverages.

Kousa dogwood. Very tasty but I generally avoid the skin
