I’m very much a n00b gardener and just moved into a place with these gorgeous flowers. The buds and flower ID app say poppy but the flower itself doesn’t look like any poppy I’ve ever know. I’ve asked two master gardener friends and they’ve got no idea. can anyone help? They smell divine and are growing under a willow in SE Michigan
Thanks!

Cultivated to have extremely doubled blooms.
it’s a peony.
There are many varieties of poppy, not just red and black. This is a poppy
It’s a poppy. Look at the foliage and that seed pod.
Pretty clearly some kind of poppy. Those seedpods/fruits are a dead giveaway.

Yes, poppy. Those are seed pods not buds
Poopy flower buds remind me of childhood. We used to make art print from it.
It is a poppy
Breadseed Poppy “Double” which is what gives the peony style petals
‘The image shows a Peony Poppy, a type of poppy (Papaver paeoniflorum) known for its large, double blooms that resemble peonies.’ – from Google
Definitely a poppy, a beautiful variety.
