At work we were asked to move these quite mature Golden barrel cactus (Echinocereus grusonii) that were potted at a roof top, in Portugal, sheltered from rain. From what I gathered they have been there since 1959.

As you can imagine it was very challenging has they filled the whole planter and some probably weighed close to 100kg (650 bananas) and were also well rooted!

We were careful but sadly some damage to the spines and ribs was unavoidable, they were crushed by the sheer weight of the plant. We had to keep the planters intact and had to lift them by hand, using truck straps wrapped around the plant.

How old would you say they are?

Last pick are my babies at home, I will show them these photos so they know how they will be someday!
