you hired a land scraper unfortunately

Oh lord. I am no palm expert at all, but someone on my street is a big fan and have many. Their palms *never* look like this after trimming. I hope some more experienced people can comment, but to me this looks like a hack job, I would be pissed

It’s pretty obviously terrible. But judging from the actual lawn..he seems to be pretty shit at his job anyway..lol

this is a crime, it looked beautiful, but also that’s not how you trim palms! usually you just cut old leaves at the bottom to make it tidier and encourage growth.

in any case if you wanted to remove tall leaves, it should be done at the base #facepalm

  5. Jfc, I’d be extremely angry.  They just hacked half of them off

There are plants where you’d want to remove yellowed leaves.

Palms aren’t it. And even if they were, chopping the yellowed part of a frond isn’t it.

Go to a garden store and take pictures of palms like the ones he chopped off with their price tags, and ask your gardener how they would like to proceed.

    Even the cat’s like “wtf?”

  8. Girthw0rm

Sucks, but just cut the stalks back. The plant will grow back.

  9. TrueFurby

I am surprised he did not cut that aloe

Those palms are resilient but they shouldn’t have been cut like that. Give it a little time for new shoots to emerge and then cut those back at the base. Yes, they did it wrong, but it’s not the end of the world. They’ll be okay!

FYI “Landscapers” are generally not gardeners. They know how to cut grass and cut back shrubs, they usually don’t know plants.

  12. No, he did not think he was doing anything good here

  13. Ologist126

Oooo. God damn. Wtf was he doing? Smoking meth and thinking chopping shit was the way?

Take a deep breath. You grew them once, you can grow them again…

  14. Nostromonstera

Why would he touch the palms if he said he was trimming the bushes next to them?

  15. makesmovements

My good god… at least he didn’t… *trim* the aloes :/

  16. Your attack cat will prevent future such disasters.

This is the start of a John Wick style revenge plot.

Omg did you call him out on it??

  19. Queasy_Aide5481

Don’t you mean your ex landscaper?

Yeah, that’s not how you prune palms. The plants may recover, as it doesn’t look like the spear leaf was removed. However, those will be disfigured as they grow. You’ll notice a ring or a thin spot on the trunk.

The correct way to prune palms depends on the species, but for these, you want to only cut off dead leaves, but only to where they meet the main stem. There’s a reason there are entire businesses devoted to pruning palms.

Just FYI, if majesty palms are hardy for you, I wouldn’t plant them that close to your house or door. These plants are sold as seedlings, and they can grow over ten feet tall and quite thick.

that sucks- they will grow back, but it does suck

  22. Bennyboom12

Geez he could have pruned your Aloe Vera’s too!

  23. FlyingFlipPhone

Do NOT let him give you a haircut!!!!

  24. jeffsaidjess

Yeah you’re hiring someone that doesn’t have a sound knowledge of wtf they’re doing.
