Smooth Blue Aster! I only hate that I have to wait until fall to enjoy the blooms.

Love seeing the Vernonias on the side of the road!
Right now it’s Gentiana andrewsii, but it will change with the wind.

My iron weed is just starting to bloom. I like goldenrod and planted a few next to the iron weed. I think the colors would look good together. But so far my goldenrod isn’t growing that quickly. Maybe it will be better next year when it is more established.

I discovered a nice big patch of iron weed along the dry run a block from my house a couple summers ago, and really fell in love with it. For some reason the city has decided to mow it when it gets 2 ft tall ever since then so I never get to see it bloom 😔

Totally fell in love with Ironweed when I got to see some in the wild this year. Have been trying to decide which species might work best in my dry/FAC/upland soil, maybe *Vernonia baldwinii,* *V. missurica,* or *lettermanii*? If anyone else has thoughts/experience with a more drought tolerant Ironweed, I’m all ears! Will probs need to nurture from seed anyway

Whatever is blooming at any given moment, especially if it’s right in front of me 😁.

Spotted bee balm. Unique flowers that look good as they fade from pink to white.

My favourite has to be either Solidago or Eupatorium

The ironweed is blooming all over the side of the road and fields around us right now. Definitely adding it to the yard next year. I think it’ll look good next to some golden rod and the tall tickseed we have
russiablows
Orange butterfly weed.

Terrible year for it here, but when the shell-leaf penstemon was peak, oh wow everyone’s favorite. Muticum mountain mint is great, and a towering vernonia is very impressive.

Spotted Joe pye!

Tall Phlox for me! I love the way I get new colors every year!
Pink lady’s slipper. We were taken on a hike to see one on my first girl scout trip. They explained how rare it is and how lucky we were to see it….and it was years before I saw one again.
Crabby-Cancer
This summer has made me really, really appreciate joe-pye weed! I have just one plant of it and it bloomed for the first time this year and I was just AMAZED by the amount of pollinators on the plant at any given time.
BlackwaterSleeper
Hard to say as there’s so many great wild flowers. Right now, I’d probably say Eupatorium Serotinum (late boneset). Pollinators are absolutely obsessed with mine.

Boneset. It popped up all over my yard and is teeming with pollinators like I’ve never seen before.
What species of ironweed is this?
Anise Hyssop! Absolutely covered in bumblebees.
I have major nostalgia with brown eyed Susan’s. They grew around a pond where I used to fish with my dad, brother, and grandpa.
Joe Pye weed. Large butterflies, skippers, fritillaries, & tons of bumblebees. So glad we bought two more last year.
Too hard to pick a favorite, but i love seeing blue lobelia around! Blue is rare enough in nature, and up close the flowers are so cool!
When is the best time to gather ironweed seed? There’s a huge patch over by the local park and I’d like to plant a handful in my backyard.
The seed heads will turn brown and the little fluffs on top will start puffing out. You’ll know
Trillium!
…sadly Deer Like it Too.
Ironweed + wild senna = beautiful and so many bugaboos!
