Hello
I have recently moved into a house in Perth with a small courtyard with an L shape. I have only really observed the sun during the last 2 months in winter but it looks like the side with the morning sun only gets a few hours of direct sun whereas the side with the arvo sun looks like it gets a lot more (maybe around 6 hrs). There is the air con condenser on the long length of the L shape that I have placed a compost bin in from to try and block the hot air from blowing on to the trees (and may look at further protection if needed)
I want to optimise the space as much as possible so I’m looking at espalier 4 citrus trees along the fence line (2 on each length of the fence). Lemon, Lime, Mandarin and Orange (all dwarf varieties hopefully).
More importantly, I was then looking at putting 5 other fruit trees in the garden bed away from the fence line. 1 on the corner and then 2 on each side. The fruit trees are a double-grafted cherry, avocado, mango, mulberry and pomegranate (again, all dwarf except pomegranate at this stage). Given the morning/arvo sun requirements, the placement of the air con heat and the closer proximity of the trees on the shorter L side, which position would you place the espalier citrus trees along the fence line as well as the 5 trees in the centre of the garden bed. Thanks for your help!
