Residents ‘terrifying experience’ after confronting masked men in garden

A householder in north Down has reported a “terrifying experience” in which a group of masked men were spotted in her garden.

Police were called after the men were spotted in the rear garden of the house in Lansdowne Avenue in Newtownards on Saturday evening.

Residents of the house were alerted by a security light activating and after checking, were “confronted by the sight of the masked men”, a PSNI spokesperson said.

“When they realised they had been seen, the men made off from the area,” the spokesperson added.

“Although entry wasn’t gained to the property, this was a terrifying experience for the residents.

”We are keen to hear from anyone who may have noticed any recent suspicious behaviour in the area or who may have recorded dashcam footage in the Lansdowne area between 11.30pm and 11.40pm, to contact us.”
