Got some time to work on the bushes today and it’s looking a lot better! If anyone has other suggestions let me know as we are still finalizing how we want the front of the house to look!

Please remove bushes that block windows.

I almost always lean toward keeping plants- but these should surely go. Who wants plants blocking the windows. A drag for you on the inside, and potential cover for someone trying to break in. Play taps, salute and execute.

The hydrangeas are gone?! To each their own I guess. You did a great job trimming everything down and cleaning it up! It would look great with more color!

I think you could prune some more. Continue pruning until there’s nothing left.

You can then plant small shrubs under the window and a large plant between the windows.

Good move. Very odd placement in front of the windows

It looks so much better than the before pic, but I wouldn’t block the windows like that

I feel like you should have put something tall between the windows instead of in front of them

The bushes in front of the windows is awkward. I would remove both large bushes and replant one of the bushes between the two windows and relocate the other bush elsewhere. Put the two short bushes under the two windows. In other words, dig it all up and start again. 😜

Hate you cut down the hydrangeas, they were the only thing worth keeping. No matter that you trimmed everything up, the bushes are dated and too big. They shouldn’t cover the windows.

  10. Cut almost halfway down if it lives perfect if not remove it.

  11. You’ve gone this far, I’d just go the rest of the way and rip it all out. Why would you want your only two windows on that wall blocked by shrubs?

Get it all gone and start over. This honestly looks very silly. I know this must have been a ton of work, but it looks weird.

You’ve got a ton of space for height in the middle. That’s where something tall should be, rather than blocking your windows.

If you like symmetrical looking landscaping I’d put something tall in the middle there, to cover up the large expanse of brick, something vase-shaped would be ideal.

Put things shorter than the windows under the windows.

Switch the inner plants with the outer ones.

I’m mourning those hydrangeas 😭 They’re the only thing I would have kept.

Bushes in front of windows—no bueno.

Landscaping 101 states never block windows with plants.

It also states odd numbers look better than even numbers when planting.

You should have removed the evergreens and trimmed and kept everything else.

I would try to take those two on the end down even further. They really should not be there, rule of thumb is to plant things based on mature size and those are blocking windows.

We recently cut 90% out of our remodel, 60+ years old overgrown yews and junipers blocking windows and access to side the house. It is so much brighter in the house.

I’d cut down or replace those. I don’t think windows should ever be covered.

Grasses would look better and not block sunlight.
