My Covid cactus experiment (it stated with a piece of the cactus laying flat in a pot of dirt) seems to be struggling.. I think a good repotting would be a good start, but should I use a certain kind of pitting soil, or does it need a new pot( bigger) if it helps I’m in North Fl.

It is reaching for the doorknob. It wants to go outside

More light. This species of cacti needs a lot of direct sun much of the day. They don’t do well as inside plants unless you have a LOT sun light streaming in or intense grow lights on them.

Needs to be outdoors under direct sunshine. Like all the Opuntia species. It should be doing well in Florida for sure.

yes get it some sun but do it gradually… putting any indoor plant straight out into full sun will fry it, esp. at this time of year. even cacti. mine only get part sone year round and they seem to do better – less stress and bleaching of colors. use shade cloth or early AM sun only for several weeks, and rotate the pot. make sure pots have drain holes too😁👍

SUN. it is reaching for the light from etiolation . Also those can take a TON of water. It may help fatten the pads up. They even grow really well outdoors in Louisiana with full sun and rain

The answer to this question is almost always more light

Luckily these are easy to propagate from individual pads (?)

I once had once get knocked off in a hail storm and it was laying on a rock with a decent pup growing out of it by the time I noticed.

A lot more light, but slowly acclimate over time. If not the sun, a strong grow light!

Do you not open your blinds during the day… because it’s still light outside and you closed off access to the ☀️

    She’s dying for sunlight, she’s a CACTUS!

That needs full sun. Would worry to much about feeding it give it rain water and full sun and it will start growing big pads.
