Not enough light. Put outside in full sun.

Because cactus are sun lovers not shade lovers, don’t grow cactus in the shade.

Opunita require some of the most light for cacti, they don’t do well indoors without high end grow lights.

It definitely needs more sunlight. Either a South facing window if you can’t put it outside or if you can then put it outside during the warm summer months.

Mine outside did that too. I didn’t give it a thought. That’s the beauty of the cactus.

I have these guys. They can survive any weather-even freezing and snow temperatures. I don’t see any problem with its growing to be honest. This looks pretty normal even if it were outside. Maybe a bit more insight to what you see could be helpful.

It is etiolated (aka stretching for sunlight). Slowly transition it into more light until it gets 8 hours of indirect light/day.
