Three gardens will be opening as part of the National Garden Scheme, a fundraising scheme which gives visitors unique access to more than 3,300 private gardens in the country.

It raises money for charities through admissions, tea and cake.

1. Somerleyton Hall Gardens

When: Tuesday, September 2

Where: Somerleyton, Suffolk, NR32 5QQ

The 12 acres of garden contain a variety of specimen trees, shrubs and plants providing colour throughout the year.

The house and the gardens were remodelled by Sir Morton Peto in the 1840s.

2. Wolsey Farmhouse

When: Sunday, September 14

Where: Hog Hill Lane, Yoxford, Saxmundham, Suffolk, IP17 3JF

A wildflower garden and prairie garden was recently created in the large country garden.

Visitors can discover an established walled garden and explore an orchard, pond and a moat with two bridges.

3. 2 Holmwood Cottages

When: Sunday, September 28

Where: Bower House Tye, Polstead, Suffolk, CO6 5BZ

The plantsman’s garden has a variety of unusual plants, including perennials, grasses, species and woodland plants.

There is also a summerhouse, several seats and part of the National Collection Engleheart Narcissus.
