@michigan, the tree in front of my community. Looks delicious but no squirrels eat them. So ask for identification.

crabapples are edible but often not very sweet or downright too astringent to eat raw – however, they’re really high in pectin, which makes them great for apple butter and apple jelly!

My mom used to make the best crabapple jelly and syrup. So good on pancakes and in cocktails.

Edna Krabappel lives rent free inside my head and probably will forever I work as a gardener. RIP

My neighbour has a variety in their paddock that is good to munch on in the middle of winter. Quite upright form, relatively large fruit.

The original Sour Patch things! Crabapples are great… in limited quantities

Good for cider. Squirrels and other animals usually only eat them once they are over ripe and fermenting. If you want a good show wait until you see some drunk squirrels and crows chilling together

Is that a crab apple or a crab apple Willow? Both make bitter fruits. I’ve had both, and those look a little small.

Apples. “Crabapple” is just a word for non-cultivated apples. They could be good or bad. Even if they end up not being great raw, they can likely still be cooked into something good.

  9. I turn these into amazing cider. Make them into booze, otherwise not worth it.

Don’t forget to add some sweet apples or fruit because it’ll be bitter otherwise. If it gets cold where you are, leave it out after it’s fermented and take the ice from the bucket. That’s how you make apple jack whiskey

Grandma used to pickle these, delicious! We also ate them with salt, and they are essential if you make Cider.
