Here is an illustration I did: My Granny had the most wonderful garden behind her cottage when she used to live in England. One day she took my hand and led me outside. She smelt like old things in the back of an antique store, and of damp wool, and freshly dug-up earth. Her hands were calloused, but very warm and comforting as she led me into the garden, guiding me to look in between the mossed rocks that made up the walls outside her cottage. I didn’t know why yet, but I felt very excited, as if something magical was about to happen. I had a kind of nervous eagerness buzzing around in my chest. She brought me to the pond. I could see newts that were black with brown splotches on their backs, and tadpoles that had little legs sticking out the sides of them, swimming around in the wonderfully greenish-brown water. To the side, on the edge of the pond, there was an upside-down flower pot. It was small, about the size of a coffee cup. I reached over, cautious but still very excited, and lifted the flower pot. Underneath, a rubbery toy creature with a pointy nose and red spiky bits covering its body stared back at me.
