BBC star Adam Frost opened up about his spouse’s surprise reaction to his Gardeners’ World appearances and admits he has some stiff competition from an unusual sourceAdam Frost is baffled by his wife’s reaction to his Gardeners’ World appearances(Image: BBC Studios)
Gardeners’ World host Adam Frost has made light of his wife’s harsh response to his recent episodes of the beloved gardening show. In a conversation with fellow BBC star Zoe Ball, the 55-year-old was discussing planting tips and his life when he mentioned a fresh addition to both the programme and his home.
The newcomer arrives in the shape of dog Buster, who has started featuring on Gardeners’ World. Indeed, the Jack Russell dog has proved to be such a hit that Adam’s wife Sulina now fast-forwards through her husband’s segments to reach Buster’s appearances.
“I cannot think of anything worse than sitting down on a Friday night and watching me walk out and say ‘Hello and welcome to Gardener’s World’,” Adam quipped. “Mrs Frost watches occasionally because obviously we’ve got a new dog. So Buster has become the star of the show, and she’s been fast forwarding my bits just to get to the Buster bits. She says ‘Buster was really good’.”
It’s not the first time that Adam’s lovable pup has stolen the limelight from the host. A few days ago, he was forced to apologise after Buster was caught relieving himself during a live episode of Gardeners’ World.

And earlier in the year, the gardening expert revealed the touching reason why he brought the pup into their lives. He explained: “Mrs Frost had been poorly, and that’s one of the reasons why we moved, to simplify things.
“We’re on the mend, we’re good now, but interestingly I’ve got four kids, and the story of the dog is: the kids are all going to me, ‘Dad, mum needs something to do, because she’s doing this and she’s doing that; she’s doing my nut in.’
“And, being poorly, she hasn’t isolated herself, but she’s very social, and she stopped doing it a bit and stopped making arrangements because she was worried about being ill and all of that stuff.
“So Buster is like this sidekick that’s going all over the place. In a weird way, animals, gardens, music, they carry something.”

On top of being a devoted family man, Adam has also faced his own personal struggle with fibromyalgia, a long-term condition that triggers widespread discomfort and sensitivity in the body’s soft tissues and muscles.
During a conversation with the BBC’s Morning Live regarding his ailment earlier this year, Adam provided more comprehensive details about the day-to-day impact of the condition.
He explained: “For most of my life, I’ve considered myself pretty fit and healthy, regularly playing sports and, of course, spending lots of time in the garden.
“But around 20 years ago, I started to experience some unusual, very odd pains. They started in my neck, back, and shoulders, like this throbbing, and then just moved through the rest of my body.
“On top of that, I wasn’t sleeping very well. I’d go to work and come home, exhausted. For almost two years, I was sent from pillar to post as doctors struggled to identify what was causing me to be so unwell.”
Watch Adam (and maybe Buster) on Gardeners’ World this evening (August 29) at 8pm on BBC Two.
