Hi all,

Looking to install this type of beam on one side of my playground to keep wood chips in. Do you know what those beams are called and where to get them? Also, for installation, is half burying them enough or I need to lock them down somehow? The ones on the photo seem to have holes where they screwed them (?)

Thanks

They’d typically be called poles, or logs.

Just find some railroad ties or some 6×6 posts, those are going to be hard to find in lengths less than like 30’

Telephone poles. The holes are where other things used to be bolted to them when they were upright.

Pressure treated pine poles or pilings. If you dont need specific lengths you might get some free odd-lengths from a dock builder. They drive them as far into the sea surface as they can and then cut them to an even height. Its not uncommon for their to be 6 to 8 feet of discard that just ends up in their dumpster…

They prob just re-used some old telephone poles, prob not actually *”Landscaping Timbers”*. They’re not that big usually & would be shaped, but be careful, some of those old telephone poles are treated in TOXIC CHEMICALS to make them last longer, like Creosote & Chromated Copper Arsenate…
You ever get Creosote on your hands.. it’s nasty.

But you can use any large log as a *Landscaping Timber*.. find a local logger who cuts trees for lumber, I’m sure they’d sell ya a few logs & you can strip them & treat them yourself.
