Can anybody help me identify this plant? I bought it a couple of years ago and have since lost the tag. It has a thick caudex and drops its leaves every winter. I am just beginning to dabble in the world of caudiciforms and would love to know what this guy is. Thanks.

Looks like a light hungry Pseudobombax Ellipticum, usually the leaves become compound, but something like being kept in more shade than they like can cause them to stick to simple leaves. They are very closely related to Kapok(Ceiba) and Money(Pachira) trees, and more distantly (but still quite close) to Baobabs.
Oh, that makes me sad that it is light starved. I thought I was giving it decent sun. I will try to find a new position for it. Thanks so much for the information. I’m always impressed with people’s plant knowledge!
i keep mine in full blazing socal sun, that poor guy is needing more light. seems like you understand that now which is good. If you pot it up in a nice big pot too it will explode, especially paired with some fertilizer and good sun!
