Voting opens Tuesday for Homestyle Garden Photo Contest

We received more than 600 entries for this year’s Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. The 12 weekly winners, selected by Homestyle staff, are now in the running to be the grand-prize winner of 2025’s contest. And now, the ball is in your court! One gardener will take home the grand prize, a $200 gift card to contest sponsor English Gardens.  Voting starts at noon Tuesday. Voting will run until noon Sept. 9.  The top vote getter will be announced Sept.  12 in Welcome Mat and online. 

SEMDS Annual Dahlia Show returns

The SEMDS (Southeastern Michigan Dahlia Society) Annual Dahlia Show will return to Orchard Mall in West Bloomfield on Sept. 6-7. The event will be open to the public from 1-9:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Sept. 7 when visitors can see these colorful specimens in all their glory. The location is 6337 Orchard Lake Road. Fired and Fused makes you the artist

Run by a husband-and-wife team who have been teaching and creating fused glass since 2007, Fired and Fused in Farmington offers workshops for others to experience the process and create unique pieces. People of all skill levels can learn how to cut colorful art glass, layer it and learn how it reacts at different temperatures. Functional art selections include plates, bowls, vases, suncatchers and nightlights. Available workshops can be found online. Art & Apples Festival has fine art, food trucks

Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA) will present the annual Art & Apples Festival Sept. 5–7 at Rochester Municipal Park from 2-7 p.m. Sept. 5, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 6 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sept. 7. Featuring approximately 250 juried artists, this fine art fair will also include food trucks and tents, stage entertainment, art demonstrations and art activity stations. The event is free, but a $5 donation is suggested. A free shuttle bus to the festival and free parking will be available on Sept. 6 (9 a.m. – 8 p.m.) and Sept. 7 (9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) from Rochester High School (1361 Walton Blvd.).
