Here's my first try. Got all the stuff from a nearby lake. There's lots of different kinds of creepy crawlies living there, which was a bit of a surprise, since I didn't think I got that many organisms to start with. There's even a new plant sprouting, that I had no idea was there. I'm really proud and happy how this is going so far.

Should I trim the plants that are growing there if they keep growing. they have grown so much that are almost at the surface of the water.

    It looks great!!!

No trimming tho. An ecosphere is about self- balancing and sustaining. The plants will figure out where to grow.

I have a 5 year old jar and the first 3 years it grew 3 different plants, one at a time. First year it was only hornwort. Then it died and out came ludwigia. Then that died and now it’s guppy grass.

I only ever added hornwort and was baffled when I saw the others appearing.
