SCHERTZ, Texas – A substitute teacher at Rose Garden Elementary School was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a charge of injury to a child, according to Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District officials.
The teacher, identified as Richard Bucciarelli, 74, is employed by ESS, a third-party staffing company that provides substitute teachers to the district.
District officials said the incident was reported around 12:28 p.m. during the student lunch period. Bucciarelli was removed from his classroom and kept isolated from students during an investigation.
“This conduct is unacceptable and concerning,” Principal Leana Smoot wrote in a letter to parents. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority.”
School officials said Bucciarelli will not be allowed to return to the district in any capacity.
