With the summer heat in full swing, your flowers might be looking a little droopy and in need of a break. If you live somewhere hot (we’re in Atlanta!), planting flowers that thrive in high temps is a great way to keep your garden looking vibrant all season long.
Needmore Farms shared four blooms that can handle even the hottest summer days: think hardy coneflowers, bold celosia, cheerful sunflowers, and zinnias (tune in to hear a fun fact about zinnias you might not know!). After watching, you’ll be inspired to heat-proof your garden in the prettiest way possible.
Thank you for the suggestions, Needmore Farms! All of these flowers are so pretty! We didn’t know that zinnia petals were the actual seeds! Even though they aren’t perennials, you will have free seeds that you can plant again for the next spring and summer seasons!

Commenter Questions about Flowers that Thrive in the Heat
Commenter @novmel19 asked the question that we were also wondering about, “Can we plant the flowers that you mentioned, now? I have a couple of empty spots in my front flower bed. Full sun most of the day.” Needmore responded with, ‘Now is a great time to plant!”
@swensonjenny was excited to hear about the zinnia fun fact, “I didn’t realize the petals of the zinnias are actually the seeds!” Needmore clarified, “The petals attach to a seed.” @suzdef64 added, “Love zinnias! I haven’t planted them in about 3 years, but my flowerbeds are full of them! I love how they reseed every year!”
Even if you’re not going to be planting these heat-loving flowers this year, these suggestions are definitely great to keep in mind for next year!
