You know this is sn aerial root, not the plant stalk, right?
For the sake of the plant you might want to consider planting the whole thing a little closer to the ground. That way the stalk can grow its own roots additionally to the aerial one.

I suggest adding more soil, just to the level of the node. This should maybe signal the node to sprout out new roots for water supply, other than the aerial root.

Someone here posted an awesome “floating” monstera and I’m considering actually doing this when I chop and prop my gangly disaster and start over. I vote leave it and keep sticking the aerial roots back in the soil in a spiral pattern 🤩
