I filled my first moss poles with a 50/50 mix of moss and tree fern fiber. I ended up compacting it down so the pins would grab as I begin to train the plants to them. But now I'm wondering if it's too compacted? Will I encourage root rot?

Also, this poor syngonium! I noticed it was looking sad and when I went to pot onto pole I realized there were about 12 little plants in the pot and the roots were pretty dry. I chose the 3 with the most robust roots and they are on the pole. The others are repotted together.

The bleached color on the leaf in picture: is that just poor growing conditions or too much light? I'm doubtful about light because the other leaves are fine. I'm hoping it will perk up.

I'd appreciate your guidance. Thanks

  1. I personally like to compact my mosspole a bit so I don’t have to water it as much. The pole is small enough in diameter and is not sealed in the back, so oxygen can diffuse to the root easily to prevent root rot.
