Something is overtaking my zoysia lawn. It is spreading horizontally above ground, but also shoots up vertically higher and through the zoysia. Can anybody help me determine what this is; and what (if anything) I should do about it?
I live in upstate SC.

a weed is just a plant out of place.
Its definitely a grass, but doesnt seem to be the grass you want
I’m pretty hand on grass/monocot identification, but I’m struggling to see enough detail from these photos.
It seems there is a plant with a long, almost garlic/lily type leaf growing through your lawn. Have you ever seen any sort of flowers or seed develop on it?
Can you try and dig out an intact plant from top to bottom, and seperate it from your desired grass in the photo. Try and include and bulb or root that is attached to the bottom of the plant.
Looks like POA triv – I’m currently dealing with it but unfortunately there’s no herbicide that targets it that I’m aware of. I don’t have zoysia so maybe there is something zoysia safe for it
A grassy weed. It’s both 🙂
Weed. And not useful either as it will not give the high usually sought from weed.
Look like nutsedge. Weed.
If it’s undesirable to you, it’s a weed.
Crabgrass?
It’s definitely grass, weeds can’t plant anywhere out of place
Quackgrass
Leaning toward centipede.
[If this link works this is your best shot at a sure fire ID](https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1dzayUZe3byWOU9mf87x6yMBPDFBaEZkmPhifcerfMgw/mobilepresent?pli=1&slide=id.p29)
for bahia control in zoysia you’ll need metsulfuron methyl.
for centipede control in zoysia something with 2,4D can help. Centipede will definitely be harder to rid than bahia. Hope for lots of cold and snow this winter, which isn’t good for the zoysia though.
Grass is a weed?

Could be both
Looks like generic crabgrass to me. Id try lawn care product containing 2,4-D. 2,4-D will kill most anything but not true grasses.
