I’m growing a lemon tree for last year and a half in the Netherlands, in a very well-lit large, south-east windows.
It grows in a pot without a drain. I have a water-meter, and so I try to keep the water level goes up to 3-5 cm above the bottom, right after watering. Sometimes I add water more when I travel for holidays or so.

At first the tree was happy. Then I had a severe scale bug infestation, that it took me a while to figure out, but I fought it off with neem oil. The tree was happy again for half a year, after which the tree started loting leaves (in late spring!), and the scale returned. I fought it off again and expected the tree to bounce back again. But it didn’t.

I was guessing there may be a root rot so I reported the tree, cleaning the roots. The tree kept losing leaves. I filled advice of a “picture this” app, removed the sickest branches, sprayed the leaves with some balking soda solution, and wateren the tree one with a bit of dissolved aspirine. But the loss of leaves continue…

Help? Is there any hope for my tree? 😢

Despite any pest issues, it’s clear that this plant isn’t getting an adequate amount of light. Unfortunately, sometimes we want the plant to be successful indoors but it needs to be outdoors in full light with abundant soil for the roots to grow.

There are some black dots on the leaves that I instantly associate with pests. Either spidermites themselves, or thrips faeces.
