I have a cedar elm that's about the height of my house, growing right up against the fence. I am having this fence replaced tomorrow. Should I keep this tree as-is, keep it but trim lower branches, or have them cut it down completely? It's not in a good location but I know it's a native and it does provide shade.

Cedar Elm becomes a very big tree. I planted some 20 yrs ago. I drove by and looked at them a couple of years ago and they are huge.

If it were me, I would take it out and plant a tree that doesn’t get that huge.

They’re good trees but unless you design the fence around it it’ll eventually wreck your new fence as it grows. I’d cut it down and plant a new one.

I like cedar elms a lot but that one is not in a good spot.
