A NEW community garden in Kildare is appealing to the public for vital materials to get their vegetable beds up and running.

In particular, Allenwood Community Garden is looking for cardboard, manure and topsoil.

The group behind the garden has secured an acre of land at the Allenwood Community Development Association lands (ACDAL) on Station Road, and are hoping to start growing in earnest early next year.

Billy Gannon of the Community Garden explained that the group has linked in with different local groups, such as Na Fianna Men’s Shed and local scouts, and are keen to work with others to help develop this new community garden.

“We will be getting a shed up before Christmas and to really get growing next year,” Billy explained.

“We are following the no-dig approach to the garden, which is why we need the cardboard, manure and topsoil.

“So if anyone has any, or is in a position to supply us, we would be very grateful.

“We are planning to have regular community days and get as many people involved.” “We’re on Facebook – search for Allenwood Community Garden”.
