The Winkler Police Service received a report from the manager of a local community garden on August 15th regarding multiple crop thefts that have taken place over the summer.

Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt shared, “They reported that an entire crop of corn had been stolen during the night of August 14th… They also advised us that there have been quite a few thefts from the garden over the summer”.

He added that thefts from gardens are especially disheartening for those who tend them. “The people that garden, you know, they put a lot of work in there throughout the year and then to come back and find stuff that somebody just taken, that’s gotta be frustrating.”

The police encourage residents to report any suspicious activity around the community garden to help deter future thefts.
