A very special event will take place in Waterford City on Wednesday, August 27, from 12noon to 2pm.

The Chairperson of the Top of the City Community Garden committee has decided to step down from the role and tomorrow’s event is aimed at being a farewell gathering.

Justyna Traore said she made the decision to step down with confidence for the future, commenting: “I feel confident in my decision, as there are now many skilled and passionate people involved in the garden who have the potential not only to maintain it but also to develop it further.”

Justyna made the decision after more than five years of the committee transforming what was a wasteland into a functional and sustainable green space.

Commenting to Waterford News & Star about the facility, she said: “I hope it will serve our community for many decades to come.”

“It’s almost hard to believe that it all began with a single email I sent to the Council, sharing the idea of transforming an unused piece of land into a garden,” said Justyna.

“Now, after five years of hard work – often full-time and sometimes in the rain – every inch of the garden not only has a function and serves the community but also looks beautiful, peaceful and inviting,” she added.

“I truly believe it can stand as a model and an example for others to follow.”

Justyna expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who worked to transform the garden space over the years.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to meet and work with so many wonderful people along the way,” she said.

“While I leave a piece of my heart in Top of the City Garden, I will also carry a piece of the garden with me, as a reminder of all we have achieved together,” she added.

Justyna went on to comment: “This journey has shown me that dreams really can come true with dedication, commitment, and perseverance, and by treating every challenge as an opportunity and a stepping stone rather than a disruption. Thank you for being part of my Top of the City Garden journey.”

However, before Justyna steps away from the role and the garden the committee is holding what promises to be a very special event tomorrow [Wednesday, August 27].

“It will be our only event this year and the perfect opportunity to celebrate what we’ve created together,” she said.

“There will be live music, delicious wood-fired pizza from our brand-new oven, and plenty of fun,” she added.

“All we need now is a bit of good weather to enjoy every minute of it with you”.
