The Scott's spreader gave me some bad strips of over-applied product this year. I'm hoping this tape job will prevent granules from collecting in the wheels for next time.

This will work, exactly what I did to mine and it doesn’t stripe anymore.

Give it a try. Worst case you have stripes again. Best case, it works and you used $4 in tape.

The spinning spreader is still lower than the top of the wheels. It will hit the wheel and fall down causing overapplication.

I finally said screw it and chucked my cheapo spreader for a nice metal pull-behind

I gave mine the chance twice. I am good with hand application now

My Scott’s spreader doesn’t have stripes and does a nice job. Did they improve the design recently?

I turn mine way down and just do a few extra laps in different directions. Have not had a problem in years now

The broadcaster being below the top of the wheels is not the problem. It’s actually the orange edge guard bullshit. The granules drop down to the broadcaster from the hopper and instead of going wherever the hell they want they hit the orange edgeguard bullshit and drop straight down. That’s why everyone’s Scott’s edgeguard spreader is dog shit!

Take the spreader apart, remove the edgeguard and it will work just fine. No more stripes!!!

I use my hand spreader now. More filling, but even application. I have a pretty small yard tho

Don’t do it. It’ll still stick and you’ll burn your grass. You’re better off using Sta Green 10-10-10. Wont burn
