I was feeling burnt out during the heat, but as I started taking out the plants that were done, I said to myself… self…you can't leave that row bare. I cracked my whip and made myself plant more spinach, kale, beets, carrots and tomorrow, I will be planting my turnips in the row I just emptied of Roma tomatoes now that they are done. I am determined to have a fall garden this year,!!! I've been growing now, this is my 5th year and has been a huge success with everything except my cherry varieties in tomatoes. I got some, but no where near what I usually get. I just go out to my garden daily….even when I'm tired and pick one thing to do…..then squirrel mode kicks in and before you know it the garden has had a lot of work done😂😂😂😂 I truly love gardening and growing food and my hope is to keep getting better, to make better use of my huge space and grow extra for food banks. I've donated some this year but I know there's a huge need for fresh veggies. Please pray that I'm able to do more next year ❤ Thank you Luke, for your part in teaching me right here in lower West Michigan to grow bigger ❤
I had ground hogs eat a lot of my groceries. Then, I found other ways to get rid of them and start all over again. It was really hot in New Jersey and rainy here for day's. I still have some thing's grow and was thankful to God for everything he supplied me with.
My cherrylicious tomatoes which I bought the seeds from you guys are producing great but my regular tomato plants are just starting to blossom since the temps are going down from the 90s. I have two remaining bell pepper plants that are getting ready to blossom . I've got fall string beans and peas coming now and I hope to get something from them . If it's too hot next year I'll just wait till fall to plant my beans, carrots and peas. I'll concentrate on my potatoes and tomatoes in the spring .
This was a horrible year for green beans here. I usually get enough to can for the year…we got 2 small meals worth. I replanted twice and they came up and fell over dead. Finally got some to "take" when we had a little cooler weather. Fingers crossed we get some beans.
I live in southern Utah, and I always have hot summers, so I know what to expect. This year, I have to battle a lot of those worms, which is very frustrating. But my most success are my eggplant plants… they love the heat, being in the sun the whole day with little water. I feel like a gardner again. Luke, I'm so grateful for your video, even though you had some not so good success in your garden. Thank you
Been a very trying and difficult summer for gardening with the weather and mosquitoes at 63 i can't tolerate it well but i forced myself to do what I could and got a decent amount of food so I'm proud of myself 😊
Yes here in Arkansas we are surrounded by water and we get the breeze from the Gulf of America. Walk outside and it starts pouring off of you nothing you can do
I got a surgery coming up and starting to clean up done plants and be done for the year. Just put in lettuce. That's it. Got stuff in the freezer to can anytime. It'll be too heavy to lift after that surgery for weeks. Dehydrating some things is easy while healing. I wish I was done already too. Finally got the little greenhouse secured.
I had my worst gardening season this year. My tiller needed work this spring, and I was going to build my new raised beds after tilling. With the heat, I wasn't about to attempt building or tilling, so I adjusted to grow bags for the season. My seedlings sprouted the second week of June just in time for the first heat wave of 5 in total. My plants were all stunted, then I planted them in raised bed soil, not knowing it had to be fertilized. So I didn't fertilize until late July. I got some 30% shade cloth, and now when my plants are growing and happy, it's time for Powdery Mildew to show up. I refuse to put so much effort into it and not get something to harvest if I can help it so I'll never give up. I'm determined to be more stubborn than Mother Nature! I'll be tilling and building my beds this fall to be ready for spring. I'm so excited for next spring. If I had had everything ready, I wouldn't have gotten a late start, and I could think about a fall planting, but my plants are just starting to ramp up production now. It's in great thanks to you that my garden is doing as well as it is this summer, and I have to say THANK YOU for all the help!
Powdery mildew. Blight. Army worms. Slow blossoming. Ultraslow ripening. All melons and winter squash hit with squash bugs, snails and rot. Ugh. I'm not giving up though. Fall, here I come. Also, first year gardening. Container gardening.
dude. here in CO we had >90 most days of June, July and first 2 weeks of August, now finally cooler with some rain, here at altitude the big compounding issue is the intensity of the sun, thinking of trying to rig some shade cloth next year, it was tough but a, pulling some harvest now and its still great. we run too, good for you, its great, some of the best ideas I've had came to me during a run!
Not to brag…but Northern California has been an awesome weather summer season this year. Only 2 days so far at 100° or above. No 105°-115°s so far. Cooler nights in the mid-50s, too. We haven't had a summer like this in 10± years. Most of our days have been in the mid-80s, low humidity. Of course, some of our stuff is just getting ripe now instead of 1-2 months ago. Even the pests haven't been too bad this year.
My zucchini plants only got a few and that is not good usually you get so many, I even picked when about8 inches or so long so they would produce more. Yellow ones were doing better.
I put a shade cloth (30 % shading ) over my snow peas this year when it got hot and I got peas a good month longer than usual. Will do that again next year here in Boise Idaho.

Thanks for letting me know that I could plant cucumbers a few weeks ago! Yahoo! Planted my fall garden with let, basil, peas, cucumbers, beans ♥️

last summer, had magnificent plants that I cared for so lovingly. Lost everything over one night to hornworms😱😱 That finished me.

Arkansas is likely way more humid than where you are
same in nh 🤣

Lol Yes, Arkansas was 80 to 90 percent humidity with those 100 plus days.
Huh. I like my garden best this year.

Same story in upstate NY, hot, dry and hardly any rain all summer. Small harvest. No fall garden but will plant again next spring.
Two years ago we had 45 straight 100+ days with no reprieve here in NM. Got totally baked.
all the bugs got me down but not going let it stop me.
Thank you! It has been a long hard summer!
Garden is not too bad this summer. Been doing a lot of freeze drying with my harvest. Just a little west of st clair.
Try a shade cloth above your plants. In NC, the general advice is to use a shade cloth over the tomatoes. It will help with the heat from the sun.

I don't get enough sun for a fall garden.
