GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) – Garden City officials are planning a press conference in response to the 3 hour and 17 minute railroad blockage last Friday, August 22, 2025.

According to officials, the Priscilla D. Thomas Way railroad crossing blockage in Garden City caused significant disruption and safety concerns to residents in the neighborhood.

The train blocked the crossing at approximately 7:20 p.m. and cleared at approximately 10:37 p.m.

In a press release, a spokesperson for the city states that “Priscilla D. Thomas Way is a one way in and out street with blockages happening more frequently and becoming a safety issue.”

Located behind Grove High School in Garden City, the street is inhabited by more than 20 residents and one locally owned and operated business, Blue Heron Farms, “a natural boutique farm cultivating gourmet mushrooms and microgreens serving the Greater Savannah area.”

The press conference to discuss Garden City’s train issues will take place on Thursday, August 28th at 5:30pm at 160 Priscilla D. Thomas Way, at the railroad tracks.

All concerned parties are invited to join “this important discussion as the Mayor and City Council, and residents of Garden City address the significance of this issue and its impact on the community.”
