A much-loved garden centre is set to close its doors for the final time today.
It was announced last month that Mill Race Garden Centre in Aldam, near Colchester, would be closing down in August after the business was sold.
The site had been put on the market for a freehold guide price of £2,500,000 in October last year.
The garden centre, which is one of the largest in Essex, includes a vast amount of storage units, a distribution warehouse, and a residential bungalow.
Upon hearing the news of the closure, Lexden and Braiswick ward councillor and Conservative party member Sara Naylor said residents in the village were concerned it could be turned into housing.
The owners who had been running the garden centre for the last 20 years launched a closing-down sale earlier this month.
The business will be closing alongside Swallow Aquatics Colchester and Kingfisher Coffee Shop.
A statement from the garden centre said: “We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to all our dedicated staff for their loyalty and hard work over the past 20 years.
“Their commitment has been invaluable in making Mill Race Garden Centre, including Swallow Aquatics Colchester, a cherished place for both our team and customers.
“Equally, we extend our sincere thanks to you, our valued customers, for your unwavering support and custom throughout these years.
“It has been a pleasure serving you, and we cherish the relationships we have built within the community.”
