I’ve never gardened. But here I am attempting to learn something here in the heat of Temecula, CA.

It’s been a battle, figuring out what actually works in this heat (duh, right?), when and how to water, when to feed, neem spray/sticky traps for those pesky pests that want to feast, providing shade, what’s a companion, and on and on. About 6 weeks in and progressing, slightly fruiting and eventually will keep a pollinator plant alive.🤣

Main composition
Sun sugar and husky red tomatoes
Green Abs red sweet peppers
Tuscana and Quinault strawberries
Jalapeño
A host of herbs and pollinators

Just getting started, and preparing for the Fall

I too am in this zone and started in March 😂 i hear the first several seasons are learning seasons?? 😅

  2. Peppers like big containers. Water/soak them then let them dry before the next watering. Peppers love nitrogen while developing fruit. I use coffee grounds. 2 table spoons every 2-3 days.
Tomatoes also like nitrogen. But they also like calcium. I use broken up egg shells and potassium. A thoroughly blended banana with the peel left on. One per gallon of water. Then 1/4 poured on the tomatoes every week.
Spray both types leaves with epsome salt and water mix. One tablespoon to 12 ounces. Spray on leaves every 3 days. The magnesium helps with photosynthesis.
Lastly, prune leaves on tomatoes up to 12 inches or higher. Peppers the same. It will help keep dirt born diseases from getting on low leaves and spread.
