Just noticed that Ocotillos spines grow inside the main leaf nervature and reveal when the leaf dies off, so cool!

    Very cool! I found the same thing out when I tried to remove a dying leaf. I pulled and noticed a spine attached. I let it alone and a few days later the leaf dried leaving a spine. Amazing adaptation and I wonder if it deters animals eating the leaves

    yup! all Fouquieria do this, it’s a woody petiole and why the subsequent leaves appear different
