My boxes are totally overgrown with tall grass, but my gravel pathways are weed free and I want to keep them that way. Would sheep do a neat job of eating away all the grass so I can start fresh next year? Assessing options and want to avoid weed whacking and spreading grass/weed seeds.

Sheep or goats, both will take care of this for you (quickly)

Is it just grass and weeds or is there stuff you want to keep in there? Sheep will eat more than just grass, so if you’ve got perennials in there you want to keep they’ll likely just get eaten too. But I raise goats, not sheep so I’m no expert on the differences. I know my herd would devour all that, maybe sheep will also eat stuff that’s overgrown? So long as there’s nothing toxic to them in there…

Both will do it, but sheep will be the better option.

Yes, if there is Huckleberry or other harder thicker stuff like that add goats

People that say goats won’t eat grass or even enjoy it have never had goats. They’ll eat equal proportions of grass, forbs and shrub when given the option. It’s funny how people think a goat is dedicated to eating InVaSiVe plants as if they’re born with a lawn-maintenance-friendly agenda.

Goats will definitely do the job, I can’t speak to sheep. But be aware there are any number of plants that neither will eat. They are either poisonous or the animals just don’t like them. You will still need to do some cleanup.

The wineries in Napa use sheep to maintain the vineyards because either they don’t eat the grapes or they don’t raise their heads higher than where the fruit is on the vine.
