After my last post on the 15., I wanted to give an update on the stinky Stapelia flower. These pics were taken on the 18. and on the 20.
The smell was only ever really bad on the 18. when the flower initially bloomed. It most closely resembled the restaurant dumpster that u/DebateZealousideal57 described lol. But not bad enough to be noticable outside the living room where I keep my succulent shelf. Interestingly the smell attracted a few houseflies, which I had never appear in my top-floor apartment before. The flower started shrivelling up after two days and finally fully detached yesterday, on the 22.
The plant is already growing more flowers, but next time I will probably remove them before they grow too big.

    Why would you remove the flowers? Just because of the smell? If you’re thinking the plant will redirect its energy into more growth, that usually doesn’t happen.

    Sounds like everything is working as intended. The flowers smell like rot specifically to attract flies 🙂

    That and the sort of hairy alien starfish look of the flowers themselves are the unique, distinguishing things about stapelia
