A gardening expert shared his simple trick for getting rid of yellow patches that come from dog pee, which only involves three steps. As much as Bits love their dogs, they can create an eyesore in gardens. This is because they tend to urinate on the grass. If they do so in the same spot for long enough, pet owners can be left with unattractive yellow patches in their lawns, which takes away from the overall look of their outdoor space.

Dogs naturally have nitrogen in their pee, which essentially burns the grass when they urinate on it. There are certain ways to prevent this, such as training your dog to pee in a certain spot or washing away the pee after your dog has urinated. But these tricks are often easier said than done. For many dog owners, these yellow patches in their grass are largely unavoidable. But there is a simple fix for it, says one gardening expert.

Gardening expert on TikTok content creator, Gardening with Ish, shared his method for getting rid of these ugly patches. “Yellow patches on your lawn can be an eyesore but it’s incredibly easy to bring them back to green,” he said in a post shared with his 100k followers.

The simple method for getting rid of dog-pee yellow patches on your lawn is:

Raking up the dead grass and loosening up the soil underneath.Making a ‘lawn paste’ with multi-purpose compost, water and grass seeds.Spreading the paste over the affected area and letting new grass grow.

He told viewers: “The great thing about doing it this way is it always works perfectly level with your existing grass. So in about a week or two, it will blend in absolutely perfectly.”

He added: “Once it’s done, make sure you give it a really good water every day just to keep it nice and hydrated.” He also suggested adding some netting over the top if you don’t like to have lawn seeds exposed, as they can get stuck in your dog’s paws if they walk over them.

“Otherwise, the lawn will be repaired in about two weeks,” he says. “It really is that simple, with a bit of mud and some grass seeds.”

Many other TikTok users were impressed by the trick. One commenter wrote: “This is the bane of my life atm [at the moment] and had no idea where to start with fixing it and then this came up!”

Another joked: “Does this work if 50% of your lawn is a yellow dog wee patch?”
