If you’ve ever had a gopher in your garden, you know they’re the ultimate yard pest. They’ll eat just about anything, leave holes all over your lawn, and are nearly impossible to get rid of. In short? They’re a gardener’s nightmare!
But for TikToker @amesblonde, aka Amy, the battle to keep her garden gopher away is one that she can’t decide whether to continue fighting or not. She named the gopher Chuck, and she recently shared a video montage of him destroying her lawn. She says she has a love-hate relationship with him, but we think that ‘relationship’ might be pretty one-sided!
Awww! That cute little face! Amy said in the video’s caption, “Oh, Chuck—my love and my mortal enemy. The beast that will eat anything I plant in my garden. But how could I hate that buck-toothed, goofy face??” He is pretty cute!
Commenters also got a kick out of Amy’s dilemma. @mrs.nighthawk joked, “He prefers Charles.” Another commenter shared, “It’s so nice of you to plant Chuck a garden.” @Anthony Bellezo cracked us up with, “Bill Murray still has beef…”

Are Gophers and Groundhogs the Same?
One commenter referred to Chuck as a groundhog, but he’s definitely a gopher. There are some main differences between the two, most noticeably, their size. Groundhogs, also called woodchucks, are much larger, weighing around 10 pounds, while gophers typically weigh about 2-3 pounds.
The Yard and Garden explained that gophers and groundhogs are often confused because gophers look like young groundhogs. You’ll also find both of them in the garden, so many people just think they’re one and the same.
The same article shares, “The groundhog belongs to the Sciuridae family, which is the family of squirrels. The gopher belongs to the Geomyoidea superfamily, which it shares with mice and kangaroo rats. Believe it or not, gophers are closer related to beavers than to groundhogs.”
Another difference between the two is that they have a very similar diet, and will eat everything in your garden, but gophers rarely eat meat. “Groundhogs are omnivorous – they’ll eat meat if they get the opportunity. This includes small animals – insects (and grubs), snails and slugs, small birds, earthworms, and bird eggs. This is the biggest dietary difference between them and gophers.”
