They keep regrowing. I can't use a machine as they are very close to our foundations and evacuation system. Any magic product you would recommend?

Thanks

Keep cutting it back and the new growth will eventually stop in my experience.

before calling it “unkillable,” did you by chance use the miracle plant killing product called glyphosphate for treatment to cut stump and/or foliar spray?

Drill holes in it. And inject active ingredient of round up mixed with water. Cover holes with epoxy.

  4. Accurate_Run9235

Drill a large hole in the top of the stump. Pour boiling water down the hole. That should kill it

get a drill and ~1/4″ bit and drill some holes around an inch deep in the stump. pour (or use a syringe) some concentrated roundup in the holes

Cut the tree and apply “Triclopyr 4” (60% concentration or more) with a paintbrush on the fresh cut. It’ll kill the tree entirely. I bought it off Amazon for a good price.

There’s a product called Tordon. Drill it n Fill it

Plenty of good suggestions here already. My addition is to take a sawzall with a long pruning blade and cut straight down around the circumference of the stump, severing as many of the roots as you can. Get fairly close to the stump, but a few inches away is fine. May need to make a U shaped cut depending on whether or not you have enough space between the stump and the house. This will accelerate its demise, and help considerably if you intend to dig it out.

Agree about drilling but be prepared with a powerful drill and a decent 1/4” bit….my older cordless was not up to the task.

Hammer some copper nails in it (I haven’t tried this method). I’ve read that it kills stumps

  12. I drilled a large hole in the top and filled it with salt and it FINALLY stopped growing.

Seems like there’s loads of ways to get rid of it (without nuking it from orbit)

If you just remove all green stuff before it grows, you will kill it. No Bhopal needed.

  15. Gentlesouledman

Just cover with thick ground cover and put a few rocks on it. If you are patient.

Drill holes in the center and add any organic matter to encourage rot and drill holes or cut into the stump top around the outer rings and add triclopyr on a dry day. This will kill the roots and encourage rot.

  17. drill a wide hole in the top and pour any weed killer with a high amount of Glyphosate in it. It’ll kill that and anything near its roots

  18. Old farmer trick is to drill holes and drive in copper nails. The copper is poisonous and will kill it.

Keep trimming off the suckering growth, and then either slash or drill and poison the plant.

That looks like it could be buckthorn, in which case this is one of the few times I would recommend an herbicide like triclopyr, or even the dreaded glypho if you cannot find an alternative.

Herbicides are like chemotherapy, imo. They’re not something you want to ever use if you can avoid it. If you have to use it, you should use it in as targeted, minimal, safe way as you possibly can. But some plants are just as damaging to the environment as a cancer, and buckthorn’s in that category.

    Do not spray.
Get an herbicide that’s specifically and narrowly formulated to kill woody plants, wear gloves and follow the label instructions on dosage, and then *paint the herbicide specifically and directly* onto the cuts or holes you made in the stump, and only there.

Dispose of or store the painting implement and any unused herbicide as hazardous waste.

I like those little foamy cheap paintbrushes, or if you’ve got a used one from another project, this is a good “final use”.

  20. I cut back shoots like this for 3 years and they kept coming. Last year instead, I sprayed all the leaves with round up. No shoots this year at all. Also you can drill a bunch of holes in it to get it rotting out. There are lots of remedies on the internet for how to rot a stump out, and you can follow any of those that look good to you.

26lb bar and an axe will make thst stump disapear in 30 minutes

  22. stopstopp

You could keep cutting it down and covering it with something that light can’t get through. It’ll use up its energy eventually.

  23. Bullsandpugs0676

Drill 1” holes in the stump and fill with stump killer.

  24. grege2003

Nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

  25. TheSomerandomguy

You need a group 4 herbicide like gordan’s brush killer

  26. Unlikely-Teacher922

Stump out. You can get it at a hardware store.

  27. Ok_Fisherman_6361

Dig around it, cut the roots, pull it up.

  28. grilledtreessandwich

A skilled operator can absolutely grind that farther one out. Unless it’s sitting directly on buried infrastructure. A shovel and a pry bar would definitely get the one next to the house. It’s dirt and roots, nothing that can’t be beaten with determination, hard work, patience, and attention. Locate where the lines are, dig around the stump, expose the roots and sever them, lift, and repeat. Drink beer.

  29. postalwarrior2005

Go at with a hatchet and knee pads.

  30. Copper nails/screws. Drive a few in the trunk and roots.

  31. BeholderLivesMatter

I had one right next to a shared fence. Couldn’t kill it for the life of me. I ended up digging the earth up around it. Wrapping a tarp tightly around it. Wrapping that with wire tightly. Then I covered it in rocks and it’s now a decorative rock feature and a lesson to other plants what happens when you don’t listen.

  32. Designer-Swimmer-24

Get yourself a landscaper I guess

  33. cocoteddylee

I have excellent results from smothering it. Cardboard, tarp and bricks

  34. INXS2022

    2-4d poured into 12 1/2 inch holes 6″ deep

  35. thorstad

Drill and salt worked great for me in a similar situation.

  36. Traditional_Post6232

Pour sugar in those cuts and ants will take care of it all for you
