I'm in Louisiana. I have a pretty big drake elm in my front yard, and underneath it I have a small crepe Myrtle and grass. Is there anything I can do to fix the grass in these areas? The under parts of the tree have been groomed to allow as much sunlight in as possible while still looking good.

Get some high quality fertile soil/dirt from a gardening store or similar and grass seed. Use a three prong and scour the bare spots, mix some fertile soil and seed together and drop generously on bare spots and spread evenly. Then cover with more fertile soil. Water generously.
