  1. Wow. I have been gardening for 35 years and I never heard of misting in the heat. I'm gonna do this tomorrow. I'm in southern CT and we're going over 100 tomorrow.

  2. Just found your channel. I try to find as many garden channels as I can from NC or similar growing zones. I live in Elizabeth City about 3 hrs east of Raleigh. We have had thunderstorms all last week now this heat for this week. I havent even ventured outside except to toss a bag of trash. We will also get crazy winds when the tornados pop up. Then usually a drought later in the summer with no rain whatsoever. I dont have much in my yard to care for. Some daylilies on the side of the house, a couple hydrangeas in front, and some azaleas out back. I wanted to get some pots for my front porch but never got aroun d to it. What container plants like it hot? The porch is covered at least.

  3. Only because you didn't mention it when you talked about the aloe. Please do not water your aloe, cactus, or succulents during a heatwave. They go dormant, and watering can kill them. I've learned the hard way. 😢

  4. I just bought some plants on sale, but will NOT plant them until the hot wave is over. Will keep them in shady place for now.

  5. And I'm complaining about the heat in Chicago! Thinking of everyone in the south and the east coast this week! Hang in there!

  6. 3 days of 100 degrees here in Michigan its brutal, were just not used to this gulf coast level of heat and humidity. My entire body sweats like a leaking water hose. The plants that been waiting for the heat are jumping out the ground tho since leading up to this heat we had like 3-4 inches of rain over 72hrs from storms

  7. Jim this is such an informative helpful and timely video thank you for the spraying tip, who knew! This will definitely help save my Charleston gardens over the next few days! Sent you an email trying to get in touch with you, Debbie TGCC

  8. Every year (15 years) I have scorched Niko colored flowers on my large beautiful hygrangeas. THANKS for the information!!! (NJ)

  9. good info! I'm in Las Vegas. I am trying to grow some more "shade" plants. Trying Hydrangea, azaleas. Is it ok to get their leaves wet?

  10. Thank you for the great tips!!

Take care of yourselves Jim and Steph! We are still in normal temps here in Houston. But oh alas July and August are coming I’ll be cursing and wondering why on earth I live here. A tradition!!

  11. Great video! Thank you, Jim. I am a relatively new gardener and I am struggling with timing & getting everything in to the ground on time. I get excited and buy a ton of plants before my beds are ready and before I know it, the heat hits and I still have a lot of plants in their nursery pots. Right now I have a rose, a couple of trees and some other perennials (salvia, coneflower) that are pretty root-bound in their pots and I am unsure if I should plant them or wait. Its difficult to keep them watered sufficiently! Thank you for all of your helpful advice. 🙂

  12. In NE Iowa right now it’s heat, it’s humidity it’s wind it’s frustrating! My container flowers are so unhappy. Drainage in my south facing garden is hot or cold. So I give the top soil some moisture here and there and they always appreciate it

  13. Mint in NC seems to begin spreading shoots around this hot weather. My mountain mint is sending shoots everywhere while in bloom.

  14. I was starting to wonder if I aught to water the foliage!! I remember reading oh water the roots where the plant actually needs the water, not from overhead because of this and that reason. I'm sure that matters, but I can tell my plants are struggling no matter how much I water the ground. I have many new plants and am wondering if this should really be THIS difficult? I appreciate this video!

  15. Great information in this video along with all your videos that are learn so much from, Mr. Jim. We are in Fuquay Varina and we are experiencing that "Heat Dome" heat as well. And it is the end of July!! The heat just continues and I am putting "plant tents" over some of my newer plants that are showing heat stress.
