Congrats on the new grandson. I was laughing so hard when you kept talking about how you were so excited for him to come over and garden with you and pick out a pumpkin this Halloween. My mom was the same way with my son when he was born. Sadly, she passed away when he was only 5 weeks old, but she did make sure that SHE bought him his first Easter basket, and we still have it and put it out for him on Easter – 14 years now!
I feel like she's blessed my yard this year. My pumpkins usually die by July, but this year we tried the Cinderella and Jarrahdale varieties instead of the Jack O Lantern variety, and the vines have completely taken over half our yard. (No deer in our neighborhood.) Our kids are going to have a blast picking pumpkins.

Congratulations on the grandson I also became a grand dad this year . My garden ok could have been better lots of cucumbers, cherry toms , gold jubilee, melons and squash still doing good . Heat was hard on things this year.

My advice in return is to never leave visiting the grandbaby until Grandma has had plenty of baby holding time and says it's ok. Lol learned that the hard way. Congratulations!!!!

Awesome news Gary. As a proud "Pa Pa" to my grandchildren let me say that it really "is the best":) Family and including family is what it is all about! I have followed you for at least ten of those fifteen years and let me say thank you for being my mentor and garden guru. I retired about the same time you did and we gardeners and outdoorsmen always have something to do. I am also and Archer and have enjoyed seeing your target in the background as mine is also next to my garden:) I had to Florida weave my tomatoes one year when they were little and helping me plant and got them to close together:) My garden here in East Texas only has Okra and Peppers hanging in there. The peppers have stopped producing due to heat but I know they will take back off when it cools down. Winter vegetables are under grow lights now. Whatever direction your garden takes next we will hang with you. And "Happy Birthday" my grandchildren are coming from "Austin Texas" this weekend to celebrate. Great name for a grandson:)

Happy Birthday! What a wonderful year for you! Mine was 2024 with my retirement and first grandchild being born in the same month. I can very much relate to the vison you and your wife have; I'm now turning a spare bedroom into a playroom. Have you thought of making baby food for Austin? I did when I visited, but wished I could do more. They are coming for Thanksgiving and it will be the first trip to my house for my granddaughter. I don't know how much of the garden will be left to show her, but I'm trying to grow as much of the Thanksgiving Dinner as possible. She's got some teeth now and will be almost 18 months, so I hope to feed her well. I love to cook and bake. I shed a few wistful tears when you talked about the pumpkin patch. I wish you and your family years of wonderful memories. ❤
