Is it ok for me to put down seed tomorrow? Or wait longer for lower temperatures?

I started overseeding on Sunday. Partial sun and shady areas. Will overseed full sun in 1-2 weeks depending on weather

Already that cool? We’re just gearing up for summer here

Looks nice. I’m aiming mid to late sept. It’s still too hot and in the depths of summer where I am. I did just get quotes on top soil delivery today.

Soil temp is more important than these temps, but it sure looks like a great time for you to seed.

  5. I am contemplating the same. Gonna have 7-10 days of 10 degree below weather in 1/3 the country. I am gonna seed now and then maybe overseed if it gets stressed in acouple weeks.

100%. Probably could have done it weeks ago.

  7. Check greencast.com soil temp map. I think 70 degree farneheit is optimum for fall seeding. I’m in zone 7a and I think I still have about two-three weeks.

  8. Jesus fucking Christ send that weather to Phoenix please.

I had similar weather last year and sent it on Labor Day in KC, next week it was 100 for 4+ days. Pretty much all of it survived, just gotta keep it watered well.

I’d wait till September. Maybe mid September

7b & seeing consistent mid 70s to 80s. gonna spray the weeds & maybe aerate, then overseed in a few weeks.

I overseeded last weekend. Nothing wrong with overseeding too early as long as you water with a timer so it doesn’t dry out. If you can keep up with the water, cool season grass will grow even in 95° temps. I live in northern illinois. Temps are highs of low 80s for the next 2 weeks with no rain in sight which is perfect because I don’t have to worry about the seed washing out.

Look up your average day of first frost. Back up 6 weeks from there. That is the latest you can see. You can see it earlier if you want, but you must be careful of hot weather it will kill baby grass

  14. I laid down plastic to solarize our lawn (7b, So. NJ) about 2.5 weeks ago thinking “It’s August, it’s going to be hot and humid as hell and that soil’s gonna bake!”

No. Just one puny mini heat wave which did bake the weeds and whatever grass was left but I don’t think it was nearly long enough to cook the weed seeds 8-12″ down.

Thinking of doing a scalp/super short mow and bag right after Labor Day then overseed and top dress.

What temp is too high to seed for Bermuda in Dallas? I just didn’t want to do it too late and not have enough growing weather for the first frost.

High of 80!? It won’t be like that here for 2 months 😭

60-75 degrees is the ideal time for cool season grasses

You should mostly be looking at soil temps, not air temps. We are in Charlotte (8a) but have a cool season lawn (TTTF). My fall oversees is usually around late September early October.

This usually puts my soil temps around 65-70.

This is still warm enough for the grass to germinate and we have a nice lush lawn all winter.

Looks exactly like my forecast in Michigan. I threw down last weekend

  20. Go ahead. More important than your outdoor temps is your ability to keep watering if you get a drought or hot spell in fall, and the amount of time you have between seeding and first frost.

  21. Similar-Lie-5439

In my area I could always reseed. It’s never above 75

  22. We have similar temps here in MD, I am not doing anything until Oct because if I did there would be a record heat wave or a tsunami the next week.
