I’ve got two elderberry trees that I’ve come to realise are stubborn as hell! Cut them down to a stump & now need to research how to send them to plant heaven permanently.

I’ve been hacking out a hedge that’s been there since the property was built (it does nothing but catch rubbish since every other fucker has made themselves a double drive).
These stumps are *murder*. I’ve broken a fork and a tree saw already.
Special shout out to the man living opposite who lent me a mattock and using it has confirmed I need to buy myself one.
Keep replaying the line from LOTR about how the roots are strong. Maybe this is the ‘goblin mode’ kids are talking about.

Just recently excavated one ash tree and a sycamore both around 20 feet, the method was to use a metal post hole bar and smash the main roots that tether off and slowly twist the stump around until dislocation. No need for special equipment or calling tree surgeons.

Then it comes crashing down.
And then it starts to hurt, inside.
Which stump are we talking about here
I’ve got to start this job. I’ll take this as a sign 🪓
We towed ours out with the jeep 😂 It was a conifer but someone who lived here before cut off the top of it and it looked ridiculous 😂
