MIDLAND, Mich. (WNEM) – A man convicted of shooting a woman inside the Midland Olive Garden has been sentenced to decades behind bars.
According to court records from the 42nd Circuit Court, on Wednesday, Aug. 20, a jury found Robert Monit guilty of the following charges:
Assault with intent to murderTwo counts of felony firearmCarrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intentSix counts of assaulting, resisting, and/or obstructing a police officerAggravated domestic violenceRobert Monit(Midland County Jail)

According to court records, Monit will serve a minimum of 20 years, up to 35 years in prison for the shooting that happened in June of 2024 after an isolated domestic-related incident. The Midland Police Department said the incident left a 41-year-old Saginaw woman shot and injured.

Monit was ordered to pay $130 for crime victim rights, $60 for a new DNA assessment, and $730 for state minimum costs, as noted in court documents.
Monit was also given a notice of his right to appeal.
