The University of Georgia Extension Troup County is now accepting applications for the next Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Class starting in January 2026. Who are Master Gardener Extension Volunteers? They are community members and plant enthusiasts with a willingness to teach community members how to use plants and gardening to improve their environment, personal health and quality of life.

The training is designed by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and led by experts from all facets of horticulture. Through the Master Gardener program, the Cooperative Extension provides research-based information to trained volunteers. Working locally, the volunteers then help deliver gardening programs and information to the community assisting the Extension in serving more Georgia citizens with home food production, environmental stewardship and health benefits.

Volunteers lead workshops, work with youth and maintain a Help Desk at the Troup County Extension Office. Most recently, the Master Gardeners established three seed libraries at the Hogansville Public Library, LaGrange Memorial Library and at the Extension Office on Pegasus Parkway. There is access to continuing education opportunities offered locally or state-wide as well as field trips to gardens or other horticultural centers.

Contact Troup County Extension ANR Agent Sheena Gay at troup.extension@uga.edu or at 706-883-1675 for more information and an application. The application will also be on the Troup County Extension Facebook page. The deadline for application is Aug. 31.
