This isn’t my property but one I take care of. I landscape/garden but I don’t do hardscaping (I refer it out when asked). I’ve been at it for 20+ years so I feel like I have a good eye for quality work. The seems, the inside curve, the edges- everything just looks so wonky.

They also ruined a garden on a steep incline by incorrectly cutting it back and weeding- it will now wash out every rainstorm so I want to make sure I’m just not being overly sour. Still undecided if I’m going to say anything to the homeowner.

The concrete is so weird, i wonder why they did it like that

It just looks bad. Even if it’s done properly, it looks bad.

honestly it looks like when they poured the concrete the guy who typically does the lines was out sick, so one guy just said, ” ive seen him do it, i can do it too” and they went, okay all yours.

  4. Depends what they paid. Yeah, it’s not great but if it was a low bid on the job, this is what I’d expect. It’s not terrible, it’s just not a high cost job result.

You can always make a comment and ask them how they like it and what they think about it. And if they’re not happy then you could say something. Otherwise you might be insulting them if you speak up. I agree it does look odd but it could be the homeowner’s style or preference.

I would have almost thought it was what someone wanted and done alright… Except for the crooked ass cut on the cut closest to the camera. It’s awful. Then the outer edges are worse.

Not curvy enough to be intentional. I don’t mind that it’s done patchwork. I hope it was cheap because I’d need to put some sedges to hide the edges.

i’d be mad about it too it looks like shit

Is this stone or cement? Because it kinda looks like stone.

Is it natural granite? If it’s hand cut, maybe they want that natural look? I guess it depends on the material and homeowners esthetic.

  11. Looks almost like they repurposed concrete pieces from an old project and modgepodged them together, then cut the edges for a clean line

If I was getting stamped concrete and it looked like that, I wouldn’t pay. That looks terrible lol

  13. Pretty sure this isn’t concrete.

It looks like slabs of limestone or even granite.

If that’s the case, the design is not great, but the workmanship is actually REALLY good, to get all of the pieces to fit together like that is incredibly painstaking. You could argue one final fluid saw cut down the side to smooth the edges, but these pieces are hand chiseled it appears.

First, what instructions did you give? If you wanted a natural look then, ok, it’s fine. If you asked for Versailles then you got robbed.

What do you hope to gain from complaining about it? If you think a retaining wall or drainage will help the garden survive you absolutely should comment on that. Otherwise… why sour the relationship with the client?

It is not pleasing to the eye at all. It looks awful & crooked.

It’s abstract and not precise. I could see some eccentric old folks preferring it this way, but it looks like some Willy Wonka shit to me.

  18. It looks like the owners chose an ugly material. The shape is a bit weird but I think the material is the problem.

This is such an obvious example of someone going with a low bidder despite their catalog of work and then being surprised when it’s not quality.
