Hi everyone,

I was recently gifted this Tillandsia. It’s fairly big, but it seems to have suffered a bit during shipping. I live in Florence, Italy.

I’d love your help with:

• Identifying the exact species (I know there are many types of Tillandsia).

• General care tips – it looks a little dry to me, i have submerged it in water for 20 minutes 4 days ago.

• Watering: do I really need to use non-tap water, or is tap water here (Florence) fine?

Any advice would be super appreciated! I’m also adding some Photos.

I’m not sure on species, but I can give you my general care routine: soak for half an hour to an hour once a week. After soaking, shake the excess water off the plant and place it upside down somewhere with good airflow for a couple hours. (I put mine on a table in front of a little fan) I do use rain water as often as possible but in the winter I use tap and so far it hasn’t seemed to effect any of my plants too drastically.

I should say, from the photos you’ve posted it looks like a fairly significant portion of your clump is dead. Anything that stays brown after you soak it is dead, and I would personally remove those parts.

    Buona fortuna!
